Ils en ont parle

In other news, I've been reading Barbara Tuchman's 'The Proud Tower: A Portrait of the world before the War: 1890-1914'. Finally, I understand the Dreyfus affair!

And as a bonus, Wikipedia have answered one of the idle questions that have from time to time drifted across my consciousness: "Did the cartoonist Caran d'Ache take his nom de plume from the pencil brand, or vice versa?"

The answer is: the company was named after the cartoonist.

I remember being very taken by that picture's description in the book, nice to finally see it.

A while ago I discovered that there is a Melies film of the Dreyfus Affair made before he was exonerated... I long to see it, expecting that it will be about five minutes long and feature endless running around and passing of secret papers to sinister foreigners.

Sinister foreigners...the common element between the Dreyfus Affair and Mickey Spillane.

Oooh! I just made my brain hurt with tht mash-up.

I always thought Caran d'Ache was a lovely name, and were lovely pencils too. Thanks for the trivia.
